Here on Okinawa Ichiban one of the best thing's that I can provide for everybody is my know-hows. When it comes to SOFA status personnel owning vehicles always remember:
DID YOU KNOW??
- If you are unsure of how to add air to your tires, most gas stations that are on Rt. 58 that have workers who assist others at the gas pumps will fill up your tires for free, Don't be Afraid to Ask
- Every 2 years vehicles will need to be inspected on-base on Camp Foster, along with an updated JCI insurance policy
- Yellow Plated cars are considered K-Cars, some details about them:
--3 Cylinder Engines, License Plate will be yellow not white & have an A (American) instead of Y (Yankee), Small & Compact and Cheaper Road Tax, Insurance, and Gas. Downside: JCI inspection is done at LTO (Land Transportation Office) near Camp Kinser NOT at the inspection on Camp Foster also if you cannot understand & read Japanese you will need to find or hire somebody who can because none of the signs are in English. - Always remember to check your oil and fluids, I have seen countless cars being junked or getting engine replacements because the owner failed to check their oil and drove with literally 0 percentage of oil; Regularly check your parking spots for oil leaks
***If you plan to buy a car from Okinawa Yard Sales always make sure to check oil levels and ask when the last time the oil and oil filter were changed & ALWAYS test drive FIRST before buying, no matter how nice the outside of the car looks***
